Baby trip to Winter Wonderland: Mission possible

By ani - January 26, 2018

One of the biggest attractions in London during the festive season is undoubtedly Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. Set as an open-air Christmas market, Winter Wonderland attracts thousands of visitors every year who are looking to have some Weihnachtsmarkt classics such as sausages or glühwein (hot mulled wine) in the lively Bavarian Village, skate on the UK’s largest open-air ice rink, take a ride on more than 100 roller coasters, experience numerous entertainments and live music or simply stroll along the stalls and enjoy the lights and festive atmosphere. Hence, this is probably one of the busiest winter places in London, and besides offering a fun-packed day out for the whole family; it might be a bit overwhelming and stressful, especially for new parents and their little ones.

Nevertheless, we decided to be adventurous and give it a go. We went on the 30th of Jan as we were hoping it would be a little less crowded, but we were wrong. There was still a quite long queue at the entrance and it took us about 20min to get in. We walked around the stalls for a while, took some pictures and headed for some sausages and hot drinks. Vicky seemed mesmerized by all the lights, colours and new noises. Thankfully, she fell asleep and we managed to grab a bite and find a cosy spot to enjoy our meal, but soon after she was awakened by the extremely loud live music and we had to make a move. On the way out, we popped to the baby changing rooms which to my surprise were quite good and comfortable. They were warm, spacious and equipped with changing mats, bin, paper towels and antibacterial hand gel.

Thus, we left the park with mixed feelings – on the one hand, it was good to be out and do something different, but on the other hand, it was quite stressful and rushed experience. Anyway, if you feel like having a little Christmassy adventure with your baby, Winter Wonderland is definitely worth a try.

PS Hyde Park Winter Wonderland will return in November 2018. For more information, you can visit the official website:
